Learn More about GECGEC worked with nine VSOs throughout winter and spring quarters of the 2010-11 academic school year. The student groups and projects we worked with include: Dance Marathon, Relay for Life, Green Living Council's Green Free Store, Stanford Association for International Development's annual conference, and Stanford Educational Studies Program's Splash. Through this experience, we have fine-tuned our consulting approach and framework to better suit the needs of student groups. Student groups apply to work with GEC (more about the application process is on the right column of this page)
Benefits of participation in the GEC program include: 1). Increased monetary resources to "green" your events 2). Personalized support for event design in the form of Green Events Consultants, who will assist you throughout the event-planning process 3). A Green Events Handbook with resources and guidelines to educate and assist in the decision-making process 4). Exclusive increased media and publicity resources to advertise your event The Event-Planning Process If your VSO is selected to work with GEC, we will assign a group of our consultants (led by a Project Leader -- more on the About Us page) to your VSO. This group of consultants, a Project Team, will guide your VSO throughout the entire event-planning process, focusing on making the following four areas of your event as "green" as possible: advertising, purchasing, food, and waste disposal. These are the areas that we have identified as key, and our consultants will meet with your VSO regularly and help pace the student group in event-planning so that all four areas are addressed and that appropriate improvements are made. Consultants will communicate with your VSO and conduct research in order to find sustainable alternatives to suit the student group's original event plans and ideas. In addition to advising your VSO throughout event-planning, consultants will help put your group in touch with campus and off-campus resources as well as with sustainable options, like organic food caterers. GEC will offer funding to cover the additional cost of hosting a sustainable event and of implementing our recommendations. Your consultants will also attend your event to provide support. More details about the process will be provided at the VSO's first meeting with GEC consultants; we will review responsibilities, create a tentative timeline for event-planning, set up a regular meeting time, and address issues that are unique to the event and student group. If you have any questions and/or would like to learn more about GEC, please contact Susie Choi or Noemi Walzebuck. |
Apply to Work with GECDue to the large number of VSO events occurring on campus as well as our limited resources, GEC seeks to offer full consulting services to large-budget, high-impact events.
GEC selects student groups to partner with based on the following criteria:
If your student group is planning an event and would like to make a step towards becoming a greener organization and contributing to Stanford's environmentally-friendly practices, please take Green Events Consulting into consideration. In order to apply to work with GEC, please fill out this application and email it to stanfordgreenevents@gmail.com. Applications are open all year round, and there is no deadline. However, please apply at least 2 months before your actual event so that our consultants will have enough time to advise you throughout your event-planning if you are selected for our program. Also, although there is no deadline, please keep in mind that GEC will have more funding available, as well as consultant teams and resources, earlier in the academic year than later. In the past, all VSOs hosting winter quarter and spring quarter events have applied to work with us in late fall of the academic year. Thank you for your interest. We look forward to working with you! VSOs / Events GEC Is Advising (Winter and Spring 2012)
